Uomo Frutta Limone | Sicilian head vase
Uomo Frutta Limone | Sicilian head vase
New summer vase decorated with crisp grapes and sun-ripened lemons. The Uomo Limone main vase is dressed in beautiful robes and decorated with fresh fruits that testify to the fertility of Sicily. The handsome Arab prince is from Sicily, where the potter behind has his shop. The production is family-run and we have been trading with them since 2018.
Teste di Moro (head of a stranger) is an old and very characteristic Sicilian tradition. The hand-painted vases are designed by local potters and carefully selected. All originate from a small local pottery town in Sicily – a town with cultural traces from early Arab kingdoms.
The art vases depict Arabian Sultans and Sicilian Donnas full of pride, elegance and mystery and are a tribute to the people who brought the pottery to Sicily. The tradition behind the Sicilian head vases is based on an ancient legend from the time when Palermo was Arab, which tells of strange, mysterious, flaming love, deadly hypocrisy and a severed head. Yes, maybe you have even seen White Lotus and know that there is something fascinating and mysterious about the beautiful heads. You can read about our trip to the Italian volcanic island on Moro Journal and read more about the deadly Sicilian legend about the origin of the main vases here.
All vases are unique and can therefore change in details and brush strokes.
ATTENTION! As they are handmade, some can become slightly damp at the bottom if there is water in them, so use a cut bottle or similar inside for flower water - this way you avoid dirt and impurities inside.
